Marketing is like a pair of glasses through which a customer sees a product/service. My goal in life is produce the best pairs of such glasses!
“If you’re a good marketing person, you have to be a little crazy.”, said Jim Metcalf. My craziness for marketing has grown leaps and bounds in the last 5 years of being a marketer. I never thought I would end up being a marketer! I had a huge flair for computers right from a very early age. Microsoft windows was an infant and google search engine was in it’s embryonic stage. I used to accompany my dad to his office, look for an empty seat of an absent employee and sit there, trying to turn on the computer and do something in it. On the other hand, I loved fine arts and always got excited to get on stage to perform. My love for computers got me an admission in one of the finest colleges to pursue my undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering and also landed me a job as an Information Technology Analyst in one of the largest software services firms in the world, Tata Consultancy Services.
Alongside my software engineering job, I worked in a startup media and entertainment company as a freelance marketer. My love for marketing started right here. I passionately took up every assignment that came my way. As it was a start up, I had a lot of scope to experiment and try new things. From designing a website for the company and creating social media campaigns, to interacting with customers and delivering sales presentations, I tried them all; I loved them all. I enrolled myself in online courses related to Marketing, and used this learning to make a difference to the company I worked for. I helped the company get 50% more business than usual and this helped me become a Managing Partner there. As a managing partner, I also got a taste of entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, and effective team management.
The next big experience came through Toastmasters. I had an opportunity to be the Public Relations Officer for several events and conferences in a large scale involving two countries. From coming up with creative video initiatives to doing on-site marketing campaigns, Toastmasters gave me an opportunity to learn PR, the practical way.
